About MeMy name is Emma Havrilla and I am from Portage, Indiana. I am currently a freshman attending Indiana University where I am majoring in Elementary Education. After college, I plan on teaching first grade in an inner-city elementary school. Currently I am on the executive board as the Outreach Coordinator for UNITE (Urban Needs In Teacher Education).

PedagogyMy classroom will be focused on making learning fun, so that my students are EXCITED about school. The students should be prepared for a few fun field trips around the city, several arts and crafts, and a lot of time spent doing project based learning. Not only will reading, writing, and math be important- but we will also be focusing on life skills. Also important, will be teaching students how to foster positive relationships, control their emotions, and how to communicate effectively. Every student is full of potential, and by the end of the year I expect to see them blossom!

TechnologyTechnology will play a big role in my classroom because for most of my students, it will be their only opportunity to have access to it. Because of this reason, I believe it is my responsibility as a teacher to teach students how to properly use technology as a good digital citizen. If I am able to teach them digital citizenship, then technology use will be smoother in the classroom and safer at home. It will also help out behavioral issues as they get older, especially in high school. I believe it could lead to a decrease in school related cyber bullying.
